Chapter 1259 Some people need to meet once to let go.
With the official end of the college entrance examination, this summer for many people has come to a perfect close.
And coincidentally, the weather started to get overcast. This time, unlike the artificial rain of the previous two days, it was very overcast with low-hanging clouds.
In the university town, a rice noodle shop a short distance from the back gate of the University of Science and Technology, the lighting was dim and there were no customers in the shop.
A middle-aged man was scrolling through his phone listlessly, glancing at the doorway every now and then.
He is the owner of this shop and has been working here for many years.
"Uncle, we're here!"
Suddenly, a voice came from inside. The boss's eyes lit up, and then he saw four figures walk in through the door.
"Wow~ It's been a while since you guys came. You're almost graduating, aren't you?" the boss said with a smile.
Upon hearing this, one of the somewhat thin men nodded: "He went out for an internship!"
"Oh dear, you've lost a lot of weight, haven't you? You're so thin, but you're still the same as before?" the boss asked with a smile.
The four nodded.
The owner then started boiling water and cooking the noodles, exclaiming as he turned on the stove, "You've all grown up so much! Time flies! You must have graduated this year!"
"Yeah, now all that's left is to get the graduation photos," the same boy said.
The boss nodded: "Look at you all now. You were just greenhorns in your freshman year, but now you're all much more mature."
You guys ate here during your freshman year and continued until graduation. Honestly, even though business wasn't great, every time you familiar faces came in and called out to me, I felt incredibly at ease. It felt like you were still the kids we were when we first met.
Not only you, but also some other graduates, a few of whom come back every year.
Honestly, when I used to watch TV dramas, I always felt it was a bit fake that the main characters would return after many years and the shopkeepers on the street corner could still recognize them at a glance. But since I became a shopkeeper myself, I've realized that it's not fake. It's because someone who guards the stove has memorized each and every one of your faces.
You remember the taste of my rice noodles, and I remember your faces. We remember each other, we wait for each other, and the days have passed like this, year after year.
As they were talking, the owner brought out four bowls of rice noodles. Each of the four bowls was different; some had extra chili, some didn't have cilantro, and some had a little more noodles, perfectly catering to the tastes of the four people.
That's right, the four of them were Lin Mo and his companions.
The four of them met on their first day of college and ate at this restaurant after packing their things. Back then, they were all freshmen, just greenhorns. Now, although they have changed a bit, they are still the same people.
Even though Lin Mobai had turned white and Lao Zhao had lost weight, the boss still recognized them.
What the four of them didn't know was that, in the boss's eyes, their image had long been frozen in that afternoon when they first walked in, and all subsequent reunions were just echoes of time.
The four of them ate rice noodles in the shop, playfully bickering. Outside, the sky grew even more overcast, and a sudden gust of wind blew up on a sweltering afternoon—a prelude to rain.
Old Zhao suggested this place. It was a restaurant that the four of them frequented during their university years, but they stopped for a year because they were doing internships.
Later, Lin Mo and the others came back, but Lao Zhao wasn't there, so the three of them never came back to eat again. Fortunately, they managed to get everyone together as graduation approached.
After finishing their meal and paying the bill, the four of them stood at the entrance of the store. The strong wind made their clothes flutter and their hair fly wildly. In the distance, they could even faintly see lightning streaking across the sky.
Normally, people would be hurrying home in this kind of weather, but Old Zhao smiled slightly and said, "You know what? I especially like this kind of extreme weather, as if the world is about to end in the next second, because this kind of extreme weather is the only variable in my endless cycle of life."
This is not a fascination with danger, but rather the realization that those who have long lived in order have finally heard the breath of the world.
Actually, it's not just Lao Zhao who feels this way; many people experience excitement and thrill when faced with extreme weather. Looking at the rolling dark clouds, Lin Mo tilted his head back and took a deep breath: "In that case, how about something even more exciting?"
Old Zhao: "What? You don't want to get soaked in the rain, do you?"
Lin Mo: "Even more exciting!"
Old Zhao: "Let's go then! I crave excitement right now; only then can I feel alive!"
As they spoke, the wind picked up. Hearing this, Lin Mo nodded, then looked at Director Wang and Chuan Mei and said, "You two go back first. Old Zhao and I are going somewhere!"
The two people: ? ? ?
"No, what places are there that we can't go to?" the Sichuan girl retorted.
Director Wang nodded: "That's right, that's right. You two wouldn't commit any illegal or criminal acts, would you?"
Lin Mo offered no explanation, simply pulling Lao Zhao into the car before laughing at the two of them, "It's more exciting than breaking the law!"
After saying that, the car shot off like lightning, leaving Chuanmei and Wang Chu standing there dumbfounded.
Director Wang: "No...it seems like we've been abandoned!"
Sichuan girl: "You seem to have left us behind! We were just abandoned! Damn it, you didn't take us along when there were fun things to do, you're so disloyal!"
Meanwhile, Lin Mo was driving, speeding along with Lao Zhao. This time, he was out of control of his speed, and the car sped forward with unstoppable momentum in the strong wind.
Soon, the two arrived at the entrance of the [Wednesday] restaurant. As soon as they entered, the rain outside started pouring down.
"That was close! Disaster always manages to catch me one step ahead, haha!" Lin Mo laughed heartily.
Upon hearing this, Old Zhao smiled and nodded, then looked it over and said, "Is this the restaurant that Director Wang mentioned, the one where a meal costs hundreds of thousands?"
“That’s right, let’s have a drink here today!” Lin Mo nodded.
Old Zhao: "I'm fine with anything, but... are you going to fire?"
Five minutes later, in the dimly lit private room, the two sat down. On the table was a bottle of unlabeled bulk liquor, along with peanuts and braised beef wrapped in oil paper.
"Seriously? Such a big boss, and you only serve me two dishes? But you've improved, aren't you? Are you sure you want some baijiu with me today?" Old Zhao asked with a smile, looking at the situation.
Upon hearing this, Lin Mo nodded: "Of course, whether I come or not!"
Old Zhao: "Come on, I'm not afraid of you. But what kind of wine is this? Someone of your status should have a couple of bottles of Maotai, right?"
Lin Mo shook his head at this: "Mine is much better than Maotai. It's made at the same latitude as the Alps glaciers, using traditional methods to brew a sauce-flavored whisky!"
Old Zhao: "Speak like a human being!"
Lin Mo: "Disperse!"
Old Zhao:
"Playing the game of 'Sanlouzi' is great! Playing the game of 'Sanlouzi' is so energetic! Is there some special significance to it today?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Mo took a deep breath and slowly said, "There's no particular explanation. I just feel that some people might need to meet in person to let go of their obsessions."
