Chapter 620: I'll Give You a Chance to Join Us

He took a step back with a smile.

"Guards, take them away. Let the Doctor deal with them properly!"

"Yes!"

The surrounding Plague Doctors thumped their chests with one hand and immediately stepped forward to escort the two away.

Because they had been shackled by the curse, the powers of Silver Fantasy and Alice were suppressed entirely within them, and during the escort Silver Fantasy still looked at him with that mixture of murderous intent and fury, but did not actually pierce him with it.

Obviously, even though the two of them were the kind of enemies who would gladly tear each other apart, a fundamental tacit understanding still existed.

It was clear from this whole performance that Silver Fantasy could see it too.

He might not have truly betrayed them.

Instead, he had some kind of vicious scheme.

"Alice, remember what I said."Lynn followed behind them, striding toward the First Chamber, sending his voice through their minds as he spoke slowly.

"When we get to the First Chamber, watch for my signal. The moment I help you unlock the shackles, that's when you strike. Ignore everyone else. Your target is Doctor 315. As long as you can kill him, our goal can truly be achieved!"

Alice's consciousness replied at once, "Okay! Brother!"

Then she hesitated a bit, asking softly, "Do I need to tell that mechanical sister about the plan?"

Lynn answered slowly, "No. Although her outlook isn't great and her head has its holes, she's still a Supreme Unit. When you move she should know what to do. She probably already guessed my purpose. Otherwise, if she had truly used Root power earlier, those five puppets might not have been able to subdue her."

"Okay! Brother!"

The connection cut off.

The smile on Lynn's face grew even more sinister.

He glanced at his normal left hand, adjusted the Raven Mask on his face, and with deep malice strode toward the First Chamber.

...

Rumble, rumble—

Accompanied by the slow opening of the First Chamber's flesh-and-blood doors,

Lynn entered in large strides, flanked by the five Death-Omen Tier puppets and the escorted pair of Silver Fantasy and Alice.

Seated high upon the throne was the aged Doctor 315; on both sides, the high-ranking officials of the various departments stood in neat rows, stern and silent.

Lynn's mouth curved slightly, he strode forward, flipped his robe aside, dropped to one knee, placed one hand on his chest, and addressed Doctor 315 on the throne:

"Doctor, the people have been brought. Please deal with them."

Doctor 315 sat on the throne with a faint smile, his gaze fixed on the suppressed and bound Silver Fantasy and "Lynn" on the ground, and said:

"Very well, you may step down."

"Yes."

Lynn raised his head and stood up, shot a glance at the surrounding high-ranking officials, then took the last vacant spot, acting as if nothing were amiss.

The atmosphere was grave and solemn.

Doctor 315 slowly rose from the throne and walked down the steps in measured strides. His eyes moved coldly across Silver Fantasy's subdued form, then finally settled on the restrained figure of "Lynn," whose expression remained calm.

"Lynn, are you very puzzled about how I know your name?"

Doctor 315 looked down at him with a faint smile, the folds on his face solid like congealed volcanic rock.

Alice lifted her head, expression indifferent, saying nothing.

He paced slowly around "Lynn," one hand behind his back, and said leisurely, "You should still remember the Plague Doctor you killed back in Nightfall City, right? His name was Sen Yi, one of my students. You need not be surprised; the person who sent him to test you back then was me."

Lynn narrowed his eyes slightly.

Doctor 315 lifted his head and walked in a circle, the corner of his mouth curling as he said, "At first we didn't pay much attention to you. What note was there to take of a young man who had just become a Night Doctor? But the strange thing was that the Matriarch showed so much interest in someone newly inducted—she even held a grand initiation ceremony just for you."

"It was only later that I learned you seemed to possess some innate ability to alleviate or dispel curses. I must admit, that alone made you someone the Matriarch would take special care of. After all, for those fallen victims tormented by curses, that ability speaks for itself."

He stopped in front of "Lynn" and looked down with the demeanor of a victor.

"From that moment on we developed a strong interest in you. Especially our Mother Goddess Majesty—she favored you immensely. She longed to make you hers, to convert you into our Alignment. But you never gave us the chance."

"After studying you for a while, we became even more optimistic. You nearly possess all the qualities needed to be a Plague Doctor."

His gaze was one of approval and affirmation.

"Sufficiently chaotic."

"Sufficiently cruel."

"Morality has never been a shackle to restrain you. Maybe your heart leans toward kindness, but you won't show it easily. Most of the time you tilt more toward the Chaotic Evil alignment."

"More importantly, you seem to be born with the ability to inflict illness and suffering on others. All your behaviors told us you were practically a natural Plague Doctor. You didn't join the Night Doctors out of some lofty ideal; the first people to discover you were not us, but the Night Doctors."

At that he revealed a trace of pity and regret in his eyes.

Lynn: "..."

Alice: "..."

"So, I am actually very willing to give you this opportunity."

Doctor 315 paced and said slowly,

"If you now abandon the darkness and renounce your Night Doctor identity, I can accept you immediately. Power, status, wealth, women, everything you can imagine—the things the Night Doctors can give you, we can give you too; what they cannot give, we can. And most importantly, we have far fewer rules. You can have absolute freedom."

"Speak a word, and I can immediately have this mechanical body beside you killed. Or if you prefer to keep her for your amusement, I have ways to modify her into whatever you desire, to properly liberate your nature. How about it?"

At those words, Lynn suddenly came alive inside.

"Over my dead body!"

Silver Fantasy spat those three words in a cold voice.

She knew she had to make her stance clear at this moment, because she knew how rotten that guy was—by now he was definitely mentally very active!

He was exactly the sort of creature who could not resist temptation; even if he didn't want it, his mind would be bound to ponder it.
