Chapter 809: Let Them Be Wed
Chapter 809: Let Them Be Wed
Most of the students were shocked at the announcement that Katerina, the beloved Princess of the Wavemates Family, the Wistover Duchy’s Dragon Empress, as the students called her, was going to get married in a simple public ceremony on zero notice.
However, the Barons in the crowd all smiled fondly at the memory.
They had nearly all been married in this sort of ceremony during the debutante event, and seeing the next generation embracing that sort of simple ceremony instead of a grand event with multiple parties and days of festivities, made her feel a bit more like one of them.
A true daughter of Wistover.
The staff began to set up the ballroom for a Noble wedding, and the Barons quickly messaged their friends and family who hadn’t come into town for the graduation.
While many of them were here, not all of them had kids graduating this year.
Dominic strongly suspected that the fertility bonus to the crops transferred to those who ate them, given the size of some of these families. But expecting a child every year was just too much.
Unless your name was Potato, and your wife was apparently inclined to give birth to entire litters.
The couple managed to have twenty-three kids in ten years, before Baron Abe used a magical potion to put an end to the propagation. The other Barons had suggested that there were less drastic methods available, but Potato couldn’t seem to master the technique.
There was time to wait, and more snacks to enjoy during the next few hours as they waited for the other Nobles to drive over from their Baronies for the ceremony.
Nobody wanted to miss out on this.
They were just about to start the formalities when magic shimmered in the air, and everyone was immediately on guard when a portal opened inside the ballroom, where no portals should be possible.
Two figures stepped through, a black-haired mountain of a man and the former King of Cygnia.
"I heard that my favourite granddaughter is getting married, so I came back." The King announced.
Then he gestured to his left. "This is Lord Asmodain, Headmaster of the Academy."
The ancient dragon bowed politely to Dominic. "Prince Dominic, it’s a pleasure to meet you in person. Today is a day of great celebration, one of our own is marrying into the Chip Royal Lineage."
The King of Chip looked somewhere between shocked and flabbergasted.
His mouth was slowly opening and closing, as if he didn’t know how to speak, but desperately wanted to say something. That was what reminded Dominic that Asmodain had an even worse reputation than he did.
The dragon had destroyed a large portion of the world’s historical knowledge when he left, and was technically still a wanted war criminal all over the continent.
"If you don’t mind, I am technically a High Priest of the Dragon Gods, and I would love to preside over the ceremony," Asmodain suggested.
The old cleric just shrugged and stepped away.
He knew what happened when you argued with that particular psychopath, the church still had fairly detailed records of the dragon’s rampage and its aftermath.
"Now, how are we arranging this? Would the bride or groom like to walk the aisle?"
Katerina smiled at the dragon, and Dominic was certain that the two were having a silent mental conversation for a few seconds before the Princess stooped, wrapped her arms around the upper legs of Prince Jacob and began walking to the front of the room with her groom slung over her shoulder, despite the size difference.
The guests began to laugh as they rushed to their seats, ready for what was certain to be a spectacle of a wedding.
"Put me down, crazy woman. The bigger person carries the smaller one," Jacob complained, though his voice was breaking with suppressed laughter.
Katerina blinked, set him down on the stage, and then giggled as he picked her up and spun her in a circle before putting her back down. Dominic could tell that Alexis approved. This marriage wasn’t going to be a stuffy one or an overly formal political arrangement.
That was all she could have hoped for.
Asmodain took the pastor’s position as the two Kings took their positions in the front row of the bride and groom’s sides of the aisle.
"Welcome everyone. We are pleased that you have all come to show your support for the union between Princess Katerina of Wistover and Prince Jacob of Chip. Today is a joyous moment for three Royal Families, and I call upon the blessings of the Gods for this union."
The dragon paused, and Dominic saw the questioning look in the King of Chip’s eyes at the mention of ’three’ Royal families.
But that was quickly replaced by concern as a beam of golden light pierced through the ceiling and illuminated the altar. Golden patterns of magical runes appeared on both partners’ hands, solidifying into simple golden wedding bands.
"The gods approve this match. Princess Katerina, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, until death do you part?"
"I do."
"Prince Jacob, do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, until death do you part?"
"I do."
"Under the sight of the Gods, and the witness of the Sovereigns, I do hereby declare you wed.
You may now kiss the bride."
The Prince hesitated for half a second, unsure how she was going to react. While the Princess was powerful, she was also still somewhat naive in nature. However, she was not one to wait for what she wanted, and Katerina simply grabbed his collar to pull him down to mouth height.
That was more than enough explanation, and the crowd cheered as the couple sealed the official union.
Dominic laughed as the kiss dragged much longer than one would expect it to at a wedding, and an amused voice echoed in his mind.
{The young ones are quite energetic. You have done well.}
Dominic blinked as the voice faded from his mind, and subtly looked to see if it was Asmodain talking to him. Probably not, he decided. The dragon was still laughing at the couple, who were now waving happily to the crowd.
"Now, let’s party! Someone get the good wine," Katerina insisted.
"Cheers to the Dragon Princess!"
