Chapter 66 Discovering Yourself

So the other party agreed, which was exactly what I expected.

However, one thing truly exceeded his expectations.

Is pure friendship possible between men and women?

Nicole, curled up on the living room sofa, asked curiously, "Is this the theme of your new script?"

"Yes," David said, walking over with a salad from the kitchen. "Is there a problem?"

This is a property left to him by his parents in Los Angeles, which is perfect for the two of them to meet.

After their long talk in Cannes, he clearly felt that their relationship had grown much closer, and they could now be completely honest with each other. There were even things he couldn't easily say to Catherine that he could now tell her.

for example----

"Sometimes, I feel very confused about myself,"

Sitting at Nicole's feet, David casually stroked the instep of her foot, then gently cupped her delicate arch, saying, "Why don't you have any questions for me?"

Nicole watched his movements, raised an eyebrow, and said, "What do you want to ask? Why are you like this now?"

"Hmm, don't you find it strange? Cathy has asked me this more than once."

"Nothing strange about it," Nicole said, leaning back on the sofa armrest with her hands behind her head. "In the somatosensory cortex of the human brain, the area responsible for processing foot sensations is located adjacent to the area responsible for genitals."

""

"What do you mean?"

"This means that 70% of men have some degree of foot preference, but most of them just don't admit it."

Nicole spoke with the air of an expert, and even slightly opened her mouth to gesture to David.

David understood and used his other hand to take a bright red strawberry from the salad plate and feed it to the other person.

"Well, so—" Nicole said between chews, "You doing this is not at all unexpected."

"You seem to know a lot about this?"

"Of course, my dad, Anthony Kidman, is the head of the Department of Health Psychology at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. He earned his PhD in Health Psychology while he was in college."

"Hey, why are you touching me with both hands now?" Nicole kicked the other person's thigh and complained a little. "I was counting on you to keep feeding me salads."

""

"Excuse me."

David used the same hand that had just touched the plate and been kicked away to hold the edge of the plate and hand it over. "I'm used to using both hands now. I was so focused on what you were saying that I didn't notice my other hand coming over too."

"Well, that's quite a unique habit of yours," Nicole said, taking the chair and placing it on the back of the chair. "But it does fit your persona quite well."

""

"Character design? What character design?"

David, somewhat curious, gently traced the other person's fair and rounded instep with his fingers. "You've been giving me a persona behind my back?"

Nicole glanced at him and said teasingly, "A very controlling, chauvinistic man."

"What do you mean? Touching a foot makes you a controlling chauvinist?" David suddenly grabbed the other person's big toe with one hand, looked up into the other person's eyes, "Then if I hold it like this, wouldn't I become a controlling pervert?"

"Yes, yes, like that, lift it slightly upwards and backwards, 66."

Nicole nudged David's knee with her other foot. "Don't push too hard, it hurts. This pressure is just right, it's both tingling and numb. I used to do it myself, but my legs are too long and I could never reach it. It's good that you're here to help me today."

"You haven't answered my question yet, Nicole?"

'

"What's there to answer? I just mentioned it and you started threatening me with physical contact. Doesn't that show how controlling you are?"

Nicole picked up a red grape and put it in her mouth. "Okay, you can touch it now. I don't care. Let's get back to business. How did you end up writing such a script?"

'

"What's wrong with the script?"

'

"To think we'd be discussing whether pure friendship can exist between men and women," Nicole said with a slightly mocking smile. "Do you even think about things like this, David?"

"Yes," David replied without changing his expression, "I do sometimes think about these kinds of questions. In fact, I gave my own answer at the end of the script, which didn't go beyond what I usually do, did it?"

"Yes, that's true."

Unlike Catherine, who hadn't finished reading the script for "Sex, Lies, and Videotape" before asking questions, Nicole did ask questions after she had finished reading it.

"But you didn't sleep with me after twelve years of deep friendship."

Yes, the script David wrote is called "When Harry Met Sally," and it tells the story of two strangers who go from being friends who dislike each other to becoming confidants and eventually lovers over a twelve-year period.

"I can't wait that long," David leaned forward and got close to the other person. "Real life isn't a movie. Let alone twelve years, even twelve days is enough for someone to fall in love with someone else. What if you get snatched away by another man because of waiting? Wouldn't I be at a huge loss?"

Nicole sensed a strange light in the other person's eyes, a light that held a deeper meaning.

Feed me a grape, not the green one, but the color you just ate.

"Oh, okay," Nicole paused for a moment, then quickly turned around, picked up a red grape from the plate, and fed it to the other person.

"Hmm, not bad," David deliberately sucked on the tip of the other's index finger that was placed near his lips, and said with a flirtatious smile, "Just as delicious as the one you chose."

Nicole ignored the other person's teasing. They'd practically been intimate for a long time, so she was basically immune to this level of flirting.

However, considering what the other person had just said, she felt it would be better to respond. "I'm not that sought after. You already said I'm your muse, right? You're so handsome, I'd be happy to be one."

Afterwards, the two tacitly returned to talking about the script and didn't bring up the topic again.

"One question,"

Lying completely back on the sofa, with her legs and calves resting on David's thighs, Nicole held up a slender, pale finger. "Why are you discussing this script with me? Do I look like a naive girl who believes in pure friendship between men and women?"

"No, you don't look like the word 'innocent' at all," David teased the other's precocious appearance. Before the other could react, he quickly got back to the point. "I just haven't had any ideas lately, and I'm having a serious writer's block. I wanted to chat with you to see if it could spark some inspiration."

"Hmm, haven't you already finished writing it?"

,

"That's just the overall framework of the story, at most the skeleton. I have no clue about the details and no desire to create anything. I came to you to see if you could inspire me to do something."

"David looked down at his legs, which now had a different appearance, and said."

Nicole was wearing loose pajamas and was barefoot in slippers. David got a little tired of touching her after a while, so he asked her to add some gear.
