Chapter 40 That pushover!
Chapter 40 That pushover!
The following morning, Lin Yu arrived at the police station ahead of schedule as usual.
He had just sat down at his workstation when the internal phone rang. He knew without a doubt that it was Shen Bing calling.
Lin Yu raised an eyebrow, suspecting that Shen Bing had been watching him from the window to see if he had arrived, and would call him as soon as he did.
Not knowing what this woman was up to, Lin Yu walked toward Shen Bing's office out of curiosity.
When the door was pushed open, Shen Bing was standing by the window with her back to the door.
She wasn't wearing her full uniform jacket today, just a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, revealing her shapely forearms.
Her lower body was covered by a well-fitting dark gray pencil skirt, the hem of which fell just two inches above her knees. Below her straight calves, which were encased in sheer black stockings, she wore a pair of black stiletto heels.
The morning light slanted in through the window, casting a pale gold hue on her slender back and making the fabric of her shirt slightly translucent, vaguely outlining the contours of her underwear and the curves of her slim waist.
Lin Yu wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt that Shen Bing would take off her coat when they were alone together.
She would cover herself up completely when a third party was present.
I don't know if it was because of the great influence she had on her when she was at Shen Bing's house.
After all, Shen Bing really went all out to trick Lin Yu; even some of the clothes she wore were chosen by Lin Yu.
Moreover, Shen Bing didn't wear stockings before, and it was Lin Yu who suggested that she wear black stockings to show off her leg shape.
Aside from the lack of any substantial progress in their ambiguous relationship, Lin Yu did offer her some good advice.
Lin Yu lingered for a moment on Shen Bing's long, black-stockinged legs, tsk tsk tsk, legs to admire for years.
Promise me you'll only use your legs for walking, okay?
Don't become a teaching assistant.
Of course, Lin Yu is an exception.
Without thinking much, Lin Yu knocked on the door.
Shen Bing turned around when she heard the knock on the door.
Her face was expressionless, but her gaze lingered on Lin Yu's face for a moment before moving away.
"Close the door," she said.
Lin Yu closed the door as instructed and walked to the desk.
Shen Bing didn't sit back down in her chair. Instead, she walked around to the edge of the table and leaned back slightly with her arms crossed.
This pose accentuated her already tall figure and also made the distance between the two people somewhat subtle.
Not far, but not too close either, it lies in a gray area where it can maintain its dignity while seemingly poised to advance further at any moment.
"Was there anything unusual about Qin Shuang's questioning yesterday?" Shen Bing asked.
Their gaze, however, fell on Lin Yu's collar, as if checking whether his attire was neat.
Seeing the Level 2 Agent insignia on Lin Yu's shoulder, Shen Bing frowned slightly, then took out a Level 1 Agent badge from the drawer and handed it to Lin Yu:
"Here, Li Rui took the opportunity to mock you the day before yesterday. I think it's necessary to promote you so that outsiders won't look down on you," Shen Bing said softly.
He then stepped forward, straightened Lin Yu's collar, and put the badge on him.
The two were very close, and Lin Yu could even smell Shen Bing's body fragrance.
"Director..." Lin Yu suddenly grasped Shen Bing's hand.
This startled Shen Bing, who quickly pushed Lin Yu away, a blush creeping onto her pretty face.
"Lin Yu, I'm your superior. Please be mindful of your behavior!"
Lin Yu shrugged, his gaze falling on Shen Bing's slightly flushed face, his voice remaining steady:
"The director didn't seem to know his limits."
Shen Bing's breath hitched; she realized that her action of pinning the badge on Lin Yu earlier was somewhat ambiguous.
She quickly took a step back, creating a completely safe social distance, straightened her back, and tried to wipe the blush off her face, replacing it with her usual cold and aloof expression.
"Detective Lin," she emphasized the title, her voice slightly strained.
"Please watch your words and attitude. I'm giving you the badge for work reasons, to make things easier for you and to prevent the investigation team from looking down on you."
No, it didn't mean anything else.
Shen Bing tried to cover up her earlier lapse in composure with a formulaic explanation, but she dared not meet Lin Yu's gaze again. Instead, she forced herself to remain calm and glanced at the documents on the table.
"I understand," Lin Yu replied readily, but a smile played at the corners of his lips.
This made Shen Bing even more flustered, and a slight annoyance mixed with an indescribable sense of shame welled up inside her.
"Good, I understand." She replied curtly, trying to regain control of the conversation.
"Continue to follow up on Qin Shuang's situation, but be careful. She is a key person involved, and her safety must be guaranteed."
Hearing this, Lin Yu glanced at the clock on the wall and became more serious:
"Understood. If the director has no further instructions, I'll head out now. Qin Shuang should be arriving soon."
Shen Bing couldn't wait for Lin Yu to leave so she could calm down.
"Go."
Lin Yu turned and walked towards the door. As he placed his hand on the doorknob, he seemed to remember something and turned his head to say, "By the way, Director."
Shen Bing's heart skipped a beat, but she forced herself to remain calm and looked at Lin Yu: "Is there anything else?"
"Black stockings..." Lin Yu's gaze swept quickly over Shen Bing's legs: "They suit you quite well. You can wear them often in the future, but you could also try white ones."
After saying that, Lin Yu opened the door and went out.
The door closed gently.
Shen Bing stood there stunned for a good three or four seconds.
Immediately, a burst of heat shot up from the soles of my feet to the top of my head!
The blush she had barely managed to suppress instantly returned, turning her entire face and neck a rouge color.
"Lin Yu! You...!" she hissed at the closed door, but she didn't know what she was saying.
What do you mean by "it suits you well" and "you can wear it often"?! You even asked me to change it to white??
That bastard! It was for the mission! He said it would make him lower his guard more easily, which made him seem more... convincing!
How dare they use that to make fun of her now?!
Shen Bing was both ashamed and annoyed, and subconsciously looked down at her straight and slender legs wrapped in black stockings.
My heart was pounding uncontrollably in my chest.
Shen Bing closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. When she opened them again, her face had regained about 70-80% of its usual coldness.
She walked back to her desk and sat down, but couldn't concentrate on reading a single word of the document.
Lin Yu's last words and his calm yet meaningful gaze as he left kept echoing in my mind.
"This... this guy is really pushing his luck!" Shen Bing bit her lower lip and slammed the document shut, which she couldn't even look at.
