Chapter 46 After the passion subsided, the show had to continue.
December 25th, Christmas Day, 6:00 AM.
Su Yu was woken up by the cold and by being pressed down. He looked down and saw Cai Xiubin clinging to him like a koala, her face buried in his neck, one hand tightly gripping his collar, as if he were some kind of giant body pillow, ready to kick him in her dreams if he dared to run away in the middle of the night.
His left arm had long since gone numb, but he didn't pull it out. He just looked down at her rosy face as she slept and couldn't help but kiss her forehead.
The person in her arms moved. Cai Xiubin's eyelashes fluttered, and she suddenly opened her eyes. She stared at Su Yu for two seconds, then looked down at her crumpled sweater and the collarbone exposed below her shoulder.
With a "boom," her face instantly turned bright red. "Su Yu."
"Mmm." Su Yu's voice was hoarse from just waking up, making it sound exceptionally sexy.
"Last night..."
"What happened last night?" Su Yu asked knowingly, a faint, mischievous smile playing on his lips. "You forgot? Want me, the screenwriter, to review the plot for you? You asked me what I wanted, and I said I wanted you. And then you—"
"Shut up!" She shoved a hand over his mouth, her face flushed red from her neck to her forehead. "I haven't forgotten! Stop talking! You pervert!"
Su Yu reached out and removed her hand from his mouth, then casually scratched his palm. "Then what did you ask? Are you feeling guilty?"
"I..." She opened her mouth, but no words came out. Her gaze fell on her collarbone—there was a noticeable red mark there, like a ripe strawberry. She pressed her fingers against the red mark; it hurt a little.
It wasn't a dream. The man who had tormented her to the point of near death last night was now looking at her with an innocent expression.
"Su Yu," she whispered, as if trying to bolster her courage, "last night... I did it willingly."
"I know."
"And what about you? Did you do it voluntarily?"
Su Yu looked at her and said seriously, "No. You forced me to. You forced me to tell the truth, and forced me to have ulterior motives towards you."
Cai Xiubin froze for a moment, then, realizing what was happening, grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. "Su Yu, you bastard! You big liar!"
Su Yu caught the pillow with one hand, grinning like a fox who had just stolen a bite. "Save your insults for tonight. Get up, we still have filming to do today."
"What play?"
"By bypassing the Great Firewall. The one that didn't work yesterday, I'll fix it today."
Cai Xiubin buried her face in the pillow, her voice muffled and filled with despair. "Su Yu, I can't go on... My legs are weak, and my back is broken."
"Serves you right." Su Yu patted her head. "Who told you to stay up late last night and insist on 'extra practice'? Now you know how to beg for mercy?"
She looked up and glared at him, but her gaze was not at all menacing; instead, it seemed like she was being coquettish.
Seven o'clock in the morning, in the company restroom.
Su Yu came out of the lounge and went to the restroom to wash her face. Looking in the mirror, she saw a red mark on her neck—not from a scratch, but from a bite. The location was also quite awkward; it was visible if her collar was slightly low.
He reached out and touched it; it hurt a little. This girl, born in the Year of the Dog, really bit him hard last night when she was aroused.
When Cai Xiubin came out of the lounge, she had already changed her clothes. She was wearing a black tracksuit, and her ponytail was tied tightly. She walked to the bathroom door and saw Su Yu looking in the mirror, so she leaned over to take a look.
Then she saw the shocking red mark on his neck.
"That was... me?" she asked guiltily.
"What else? Did I bite it because I was bored?"
Her face flushed again, and she reached out, her fingertips lightly touching the red mark. "I'm sorry... I... couldn't control myself last night."
"You're lying." Su Yu looked at her in the mirror. "You did it on purpose. Last night I told you to let go, but you wouldn't. You had to bite me before you'd stop. Are you a vampire reincarnated?"
She pulled her hand back, turned her face away, and stubbornly said, "I forgot."
"You forget everything. You forgot what happened last night, and you for biting me. You might as well just forget about me too, so you don't have to take responsibility later."
She turned her head sharply, looked at him, and said earnestly, "I can't forget."
Su Yu didn't reply. The two stood in front of the sink, their faces side by side in the mirror. His face was stern, with a "kiss mark badge" on his neck; her face was flushed, but her eyes held a hint of a smile.
Nine o'clock in the morning, on the film set.
The two-meter-high wall was still in place. Yoon Shi-yoon was already warming up in front of the wall. Seeing Su Yu and Cai Xiubin walk in one after the other, his gaze swept back and forth between the two, and then precisely stopped on Su Yu's neck.
Yoon Shi-yoon raised an eyebrow: "What happened to your neck?"
"It was a mosquito bite," Su Yu said without changing his expression.
"Mosquitoes in December?" Yoon Shi-yoon asked expressionlessly. "Those mosquitoes are quite resistant to the cold, and they have rather strong tastes."
Cai Xiubin lowered her head, pretending to tie her shoelaces, though they were practically knotted into a tangled mess. Su Yu calmly adjusted her collar, trying to cover up the evidence. "Maybe it was an autumn mosquito that wasn't quite dead, and bit me before it died, leaving a memento."
Yoon Shi-yoon didn't ask any more questions. But Su Yu saw his lips twitch very slightly—it was a look of contempt that said, "I know you're talking nonsense, but I'm too lazy to call you out on it."
Cai Xiubin stood up and walked to the wall. She took a deep breath, stepped back a few paces, ran up, pushed off the wall, braced herself against the top, and flipped over. She landed steadily without falling. Standing on the other side of the wall, she turned around and looked at Su Yu.
"Did you pass?" she called out, her voice tinged with a hint of expectation for praise.
Su Yu nodded. "Passed."
She smiled, like a proud little peacock. She flipped back over the wall and walked up to him. "One take. How about it, Screenwriter Su, aren't you going to praise me?"
"Climbing over walls is an actor's job, not mine. Praising you is the director's job; I'm only responsible for finding fault," Su Yu said, pouring cold water on the idea.
She rolled her eyes, but the corners of her mouth were turned up really high.
Noon, in the lounge.
Cai Xiubin sat on a folding chair eating seaweed rice rolls, while Su Yu sat next to her reading a script. The two were about a fist's width apart, appearing to be "respectful to each other."
Yoon Shi-yoon pushed open the door to get something. Seeing how far apart they were sitting, and then glancing at Su Yu's tightly covered collar, he paused for a moment. He didn't say anything, just grabbed a bottle of water and left, but the look in his eyes before he left was full of "young people are really good at pretending."
Cai Xiubin lowered her head, her voice very soft, like a mosquito's hum. "Su Yu."
"Um."
"Won't people notice if we do this?"
"What did you figure out?"
"I can tell..." she pointed to his neck, then to herself, "I can tell we... have something going on."
Su Yu reached out and touched the red mark, his tone indifferent: "So you can tell. It's not like I stole it; I got it honestly and fairly by biting it."
"What is that?"
"I found it."
She glared at him and kicked him hard under the table. "You're the one who was adopted! Su Yu, you shameless screenwriter!"
Su Yu chuckled, then reached back and grasped her mischievous ankle under the table, giving it a gentle squeeze. She recoiled as if electrocuted, her face flushed and her heart pounding. The two exchanged a glance and both laughed, their laughter resembling that of fools who had secretly eaten candy.
That evening, Su Yu returned to the semi-basement.
He pushed open the door and went inside. Water was still dripping from the ceiling. Drip, drip. He took off his shoes, walked to the bed, and lay down. The black rubber band was still under the pillow. He picked it up and wrapped it around his finger.
She used this hair tie to tie her hair last night, and then it fell out sometime later. He picked it up and put it back under his pillow. The hair tie still smelled of her hair.
My phone lit up. Cai Xiubin had sent me a message.
"Are you home yet?"
"arrive."
"Su Yu".
"Um."
"What were you thinking when I climbed over the wall today?"
Su Yu looked at the screen.
"I'm thinking, you've finally learned to fly."
There was a moment of silence on the other end. Then a voice message came through. Su Yu opened it; her voice was soft, tinged with shyness and dependence.
"Su Yu, you are my wings."
Su Yu listened to it twice. She placed the phone next to her pillow and closed her eyes.
