Chapter 18 Dissociative Identity Disorder
Chapter 18 Dissociative Identity Disorder
"Oh? You've lost your memory?"
After listening to Chen Mu's words, the doctor nodded with interest and wrote something down in his notebook: "Interesting, this is a new symptom."
Chen Mu noticed that the nameplate on the desk read "Attending Physician of the Department of Psychiatry, Ninth Mental Hospital of Shenyue City" and "Wang Dashan".
He asked, "Dr. Wang, why am I here? What happened?"
"Don't rush."
Dr. Wang waved his hand, then leaned on the table and continued writing what appeared to be a medical record: "Tell me first, what do you remember?"
"Hmm..." Although he had doubts, Chen Mu had no choice but to explain his situation since he was under someone else's roof.
He only mentioned trivial details, such as that he was twenty-seven years old, born locally, graduated from a certain high school, his past experiences, and that he got married at twenty-one and his wife had just passed away this year. As for his work at the Magic Academy, magic, and anything related to magical girls, he glossed over it and didn't say anything more.
"So, you don't actually have amnesia."
Dr. Wang writes very quickly, and Chen Mu can't understand the doctor's handwriting at all.
After he finished writing, he held the pen, seemingly deep in thought:
"It seems like a new memory has appeared in your mind, overwriting the original one."
"New memories?"
Chen Mu suddenly thought, isn't this just time travel?
In other words, he transmigrated and possessed the body of its original owner, thus having his consciousness and memories completely refreshed.
"Based on my current diagnosis, Xiao Chen, you should be suffering from [dissociative identity disorder]."
Dr. Wang suddenly said.
"Huh?" Chen Mu was taken aback.
Dr. Wang flipped through a few pages of the medical record in his hand and showed it to him:
"Look, when you first came in, our diagnosis for you was 'delusional disorder.' You were basically never lucid, and you kept talking about things that were out of touch with reality, like magical girls and monsters. You would also think that you were a twenty-something adult male and do some incomprehensible things. You could even talk in your sleep while under anesthesia."
"Wait, I don't understand..."
Chen Mu frowned; he was beginning to feel confused.
I thought it was a "time travel" story, but isn't it?
If what Dr. Wang says is true, then the original body that was transmigrated into should have already started showing symptoms, and was only talking about information from his original world?!
What exactly happened? Could it be that he has really developed a mental illness, and everything in the past was just a dream, and he has only just woken up now?
"Do you need to see some evidence?"
Dr. Wang seemed to sense his confusion, and then said:
"But you have to promise me you won't get too agitated or attack me. Sigh, that's the downside of working in a mental hospital; you get hurt all the time."
He sighed and complained, and in front of Chen Mu, he lifted the sleeve of his white coat, revealing several scratches on his arm that had already scabbed over.
Chen Mu quickly replied, "Don't worry, doctor, I'm perfectly lucid right now."
Placing both hands obediently on one's knees indicates that one will not hurt anyone.
"it is good."
I thought Dr. Wang was going to look through some medical records, but he didn't. Instead, he was rummaging through a drawer in his desk.
Finally, they pulled out a small makeup mirror with pink flower patterns on the outside:
"There aren't many mirrors in the ward, to prevent you from hurting yourselves, so you probably haven't noticed yet—see?"
The mirror was turned upside down, its bright white light shining into Chen Mu's eyes.
But he didn't blink; instead, his eyes widened...
"What...?"
His voice began to tremble.
Simply because what I saw in the mirror was so bizarre and incomprehensible!
It was actually a girl's face!
The mirror was clear, reflecting an extremely young girl.
He looked no more than fourteen or fifteen years old, and his eyebrows and eyes did indeed show some of Chen Mu's original features, but they were much softer.
His skin was a sickly white, almost devoid of color, and his hair was an unusual grayish-white, short and messy, sticking up with a few stray strands obscuring his forehead. Most striking were the several healed scars on his face, running across his nose and cheeks, adding a broken, even slightly wild, aggressive quality. He wore a loose, black and white striped hospital gown, his chest flat.
"How...is this possible..."
Am I a woman?
Chen Mu was shocked. He subconsciously thought it was some kind of phone filter or a prank prop.
But the expression in the mirror did indeed move because of me, and even when I touched it with my hand, there was no flaw.
Everything was telling him that this was not fake.
"Xiao Chen, you're just a sixteen-year-old girl. As for the so-called twenty-something adult male and the magical girl world, those are all your delusions."
The doctor on the other side is still finishing off the enemy.
Chen Mu frowned deeply, looking at his hands that had shrunk a size.
At this moment, the questions in my mind became clearer and clearer, as if they had all been explained.
Why did he feel that his height and field of vision had decreased significantly when he first woke up? Why did he feel unsteady on his feet, weak all over, and unable to break free of the restraints?
Now it seems that it wasn't because of the anesthetic drugs causing the problem, but because he was in a girl's body and therefore didn't have much strength!
"This is really...surprising."
As soon as he spoke, Chen Mu subconsciously touched his neck, which had no Adam's apple and was very slender.
I only just realized that, besides being hoarse, my voice also has some feminine characteristics. It's strange, I didn't even notice it before.
"So, based on what you just said, new memories have appeared in your mind, and you no longer remember your original identity. I judge that the identity of 'Chen Mu' that originally existed in your delusions has, over time, solidified into your new personality, kicked out the original personality, and occupied the main consciousness. So, you haven't improved; in fact, your symptoms have worsened."
Dr. Wang sighed and said that he suddenly seemed to realize that he had been too harsh and shouldn't have been so pessimistic about the patient.
Then the conversation shifted:
"However, Xiao Chen, you don't need to be too pessimistic. Although a new personality has emerged, at least this personality seems to be quite emotionally stable for now. Unlike before, it doesn't get confused between hallucinations and reality. Look, it can even communicate with me calmly. That's at least progress. As long as it doesn't continue to deteriorate, I can lower your supervision level."
Dr. Wang gave Chen Mu a gentle smile, patted him on the shoulder, said "Keep going with your treatment," and then prescribed some new medications.
Finally, he said to Chen Mu, whose expression was strange and who looked confused:
"Alright, I know this kind of news is hard to accept right away. Try to calm down first. Anyway, you have plenty of time here in the hospital."
Before Chen Mu could say anything, he was asked to leave the doctor's office.
