Chapter 1509 Tracking

Chapter 1509 Tracking

"abyss"!

Only this shadowy organization, which has been entrenched in South Vietnam for countless years and possesses unimaginable depth and influence, could mobilize such diverse and complex forces in such a short period of time, and ultimately take over the battlefield in such a way that it's almost like picking the fruit.

They put a $100 million bounty on their troublesome Director of the Strategic Security Bureau of Yan, allowing desperate criminals from South Vietnam and the surrounding areas to pounce on them like sharks smelling blood. On one hand, they were using these cannon fodder to wear down and test their own strength and trump cards; on the other hand, they probably wanted to use this chaos to observe the possible reactions and extent of intervention from Yan.

Having figured all this out, Chen Jun felt no fear whatsoever; instead, an even more intense and chilling killing intent surged within him! The frustration he had felt along the way, the annoyance of being harassed by small fry, and the anger at seeing innocent people die tragically all transformed into an overwhelming hatred for the Abyss, the mastermind behind it all!

"So...you've got your eye on me? Trying to kill me like prey?" Chen Jun lay prone in the shadows under the car, his eyes sharp as knives, scanning the figures outside who were moving rapidly, clearing the battlefield and dispersing the remaining attackers in standard tactical formations. Their movements were far more professional than the previous mercenaries, and their equipment was much better. Although they wore civilian clothes or mixed-color combat uniforms, their disciplined and coordinated manner was far superior to that of a ragtag group.

"Let's see who the hunter is and who the real prey is today!"

Chen Jun's role has completely changed the moment he officially appears in "The Abyss"! He has transformed from a "target" hunted by countless hyenas into a top hunter lurking in the shadows, ready to bite the throat of the real enemy!

He took a deep breath, calmed his rapid breathing and heartbeat after the strenuous exercise, and adjusted his physical condition to its best.

Then, with extremely subtle movements, he peeked out from under the car, and as his gaze locked onto the scene, something strange happened.

The other side retreated immediately and left without a sound.

Chen Jun silently pressed the switch on the miniature encrypted communicator hidden under his collar, connecting to a dedicated channel with the domestic command center. His voice was deep and clear, devoid of any emotional fluctuation:

"Old Jiang, the people from 'The Abyss' have appeared, but it's daylight now, and these moles living in the darkness are retreating. You can start the tracking program now. Be careful to keep your distance and stay hidden, and don't alert them. This group should still be the outer henchmen of the operation. We need to find their command chain and lair."

After a brief silence, Jiang Ling's familiar, yet now grave and concerned voice came through the earpiece: "Received, Chen Jun. Satellite imagery and drones have pinpointed your location. The National Security 'Shadow' team is on standby nearby; they will take over your tracking and infiltration duties. You... you've done a great job. But, be extremely careful! Don't just focus on looking cool! The Abyss isn't made of those small fry, don't let your guard down!"

Hearing Jiang Ling's last words, which sounded like an elder's nagging, Chen Jun's lips twitched slightly. He muttered back, "What's with the 'cool' stuff? I'm already in a mess because of this bunch of rabble and their sheer numbers. I almost got blown up by a rocket launcher."

After a brief communication with Jiang Ling, Chen Jun refocused his attention on the battlefield. The Abyss Action Team outside seemed to have largely brought the situation under control, and the sporadic gunfire of resistance had completely ceased. They began an organized search of the hotel ruins and parking lot, clearly looking for his whereabouts—alive or dead.

Chen Jun must leave immediately! Before the enemy completes their encirclement and dragnet search!

He glanced at the horizon again. Unbeknownst to him, the east was already tinged with the pale light of dawn; the deep night was rapidly receding, and the light of a new day was about to tear through the darkness. It was a new day, filled with the unknown and…danger.

Just as Chen Jun was calculating the best evacuation route and timing, preparing for another risky transfer—

A deep, smooth engine sound came from afar. A pickup truck with local license plates, which looked extremely ordinary and even somewhat dilapidated, wobbled into the outer perimeter of the parking lot.

However, when the pickup truck stopped precisely not far from the minibus where Chen Jun was hiding, and the driver's side window rolled down, revealing a young face with sharp features and a tense and concerned expression, Chen Jun's tense nerves suddenly relaxed!

It's Wang Chao!

A soldier king who came from the southwestern border defense, was personally discovered and recruited by Chen Jun into the first batch of "sharp knife" members, and is known for his sniping and wilderness survival skills!

Wang Chao had clearly seen Chen Jun, or rather, he had seen the faint figure under the minibus. A look of relief immediately crossed his face, but the worry in his eyes deepened. He quickly glanced left and right, confirming that no one from the "Abyss" was paying attention, then abruptly pushed open the bus door, jumped out, crouched down, and hurried to the minibus. He knelt down and asked urgently in a low voice:

"Chief! Are you alright?! Those two bastards, Lu Da and Zhang Tie! They came back to hand over the intelligence, but they didn't even explain to me how critical the situation was on your end! My God!"

As the daylight gradually brightened, Wang Chao finally saw Chen Jun's appearance clearly. His combat uniform was torn in many places, and there were scratches and burns on his face and hands. Although his eyes were still as sharp as an eagle's, his fatigue and dishevelment were undeniable.

Wang Chao's heart clenched instantly. Forgetting all about superior-subordinate etiquette, he reached out to check Chen Jun for any serious wounds, muttering, "Where are you hurt? How serious is it? Let me see! Let's get out of here right away! The medical kit is in the car!"

Chen Jun raised his hand and lightly slapped away Wang Chao's hand that was groping him, saying in a low voice with annoyance, "Don't touch me! You won't die! It's all enemy blood." He paused, glanced in the direction of the hotel, and said, "My luggage is still in my room on the fourth floor. I have to go get it. There are important things in it."

"What?!" Wang Chao's eyes widened in surprise. "Director! You're going back?! That place is full of Abyss people now! It's too dangerous! What's more important than life? Let's get out of here first, we'll talk about the stuff later!"

"No, we have to take it." Chen Jun's tone was resolute and brooked no argument. The bag contained not only his spare identification, encrypted communication equipment, and some special gear, but more importantly, some scattered clues and items he had collected along the way that might be related to the "Abyss." It absolutely could not fall into the other side's hands.

Seeing Chen Jun's resolute gaze, Wang Chao knew he couldn't persuade him otherwise. He gritted his teeth and suddenly stood up: "I'll go! Director, you wait here, I'll go get it for you!"

“You’re too conspicuous, and you’re not familiar with the layout of the room.” Chen Jun also stood up, stretching his stiff joints. “I’m fast and know the route. You’ll stay here to provide backup. Prepare the car and be ready to evacuate at any time. Remember, if you hear gunfire inside and something seems off, or if you see a large group of people surrounding you, don’t hesitate, drive away immediately and wait for me at the backup rendezvous point.”

"Director!" Wang Chao exclaimed anxiously.

"Execute the order!" Chen Jun shouted in a low voice, his eyes instantly turning stern.

Wang Chao's body stiffened. Looking at Chen Jun's blood-stained face, which brooked no dissent, he swallowed back all his words of advice. He straightened up and whispered, "Yes, Chief! Please... be careful!"

Without saying anything more, Chen Jun took a deep breath and, like the last shadow in the dark night, used the cars in the parking lot as cover. With a few quick movements, he silently made his way back to the main building of the hotel, which had just been ravaged by blood and was still filled with the smell of gunpowder and death.

Wang Chao stood there, watching Chen Jun's ghostly, yet resolute, figure disappear into the shadows beside the hotel. A mix of emotions welled up within him, including deep self-reproach and regret. He slapped himself hard across the face, the sound ringing out, and muttered a curse under his breath:

"Wang Chao! You're a fucking piece of trash! Director Chen brought you out from the border, personally trained you, and put you in such an important position as the 'spearhead,' just so you could watch him from the sidelines when he's in the most danger?! And you still want him to go back and risk his life?! Damn it! Those two bastards, Lu Da and Zhang Tie, aren't human either! They came back and all they said was that the director sent them to fix the car, that the director had other arrangements, and that it was safe... Safe my ass! Is this what you call safe?!"

He looked around at the chaotic scene in the parking lot and around the hotel—shell casings everywhere, shattered car windows, burn marks, and… corpses lying haphazardly in every corner that “Abyss” hadn’t had time to clean up! A quick glance revealed at least dozens of bodies! And that didn’t even include those inside the hotel!

The smell of blood was so strong that it was sickening.

Wang Chao's breathing became heavy. Lu Da and Zhang Tie actually casually said their task was "repairing a car"? Did they even know what the bureau chief had gone through here alone?! Is this the kind of scene you can see repairing a car?!
