Chapter 70 This Heavy Concern
Chapter 70 This Heavy Concern
Whether it was a tacit understanding between mother and son or something else, Jiang Youzhen looked at the script in his hand, pondered for a moment, and then said, "Mom, my new work is related to religion."
"That's great! I also have a new idea. It seems my son and I have a good understanding of each other."
Jiang Jingshu was pleasantly surprised and she was also looking forward to Jiang Youzhen's new work.
She originally wanted Kang Woo-jin to return to Korea, but now that she sees he's unavailable, she has decided to fly to New York in a few days to meet him and visit the film crew.
Jiang Youzhen agreed. He hadn't seen Jiang Jingshu in a long time. It was a pity that Mads Wu was busy filming and wasn't in New York. Otherwise, the family could have had a reunion dinner.
On set, prop company employees were busy setting up the set. After finishing his phone call, Kang Woo-jin returned to his spot and continued discussing filming with Tony.
Filming won't start so soon; the set setup will take some time, not to mention he needs to communicate with the stunt performers.
Tony really liked the new script, and he even suggested the movie title. Kang Woo-jin had provided several names, but Tony ultimately chose "REC" as his suggestion.
"Religion, viruses, physical experiments, and plenty of scenes of brutal violence, Anders."
"That kind of jump scare is really scary, and doesn't it feel exciting? Being trapped in a building, dodging pursuers, and having no weapons—just thinking about it is terrifying."
"They're practically writing zombies on it, but the religious element is definitely a selling point. The film company said they wanted you to write a sequel, looks like there's hope this time?" Tony smiled, looking at the script, and asked, "So, when you asked me to find an empty building for filming, was it related to this?"
"Hmm, did you find it?"
"Of course, we found a lot of actors this time, roughly thirty, including stunt performers, and then there are the staff, so the number is quite large, and we've had a hard time ordering lunch boxes."
Ordering lunch boxes is no small matter, especially with so many people. The assistant director is the one who has the biggest headache.
Tony was constantly busy, keeping track of both the box office and critical reception of "Lost in Delta" and managing the琐事 (trivial matters) of his new film crew.
In contrast, Kang Woo-jin now only needs to explain the scenes to the actors and communicate with the stunt performers.
He also needs to pay attention to the makeup and styling. Tony had previously complained that he looked no different from a zombie, and when the look was finalized, Kang Woo-jin felt the same way.
Moreover, these are zombies with extremely fast reaction speeds; anyone would be afraid of that.
The crew had three strong cameramen who shot all the footage. To emphasize the mockumentary feel, Tony ordered the most advanced cameras and fitted the cameramen with eight straps, one of the purposes of which was to make the footage more realistic.
The preparation of props and set design took several days. Jiang Youzhen spent a lot of time observing some details and personally changed the position of several props. Then he sat in front of the camera, picked up the megaphone and shouted "Action!"
Once the director gave the order, the entire crew got to work. Jennifer had experience filming horror movies, so mockumentaries were actually the ones she was most willing to accept. Therefore, she acted very naturally in front of the camera, displaying the vigor and radiance of a young female reporter.
From the very first scene, the atmosphere was great, and the filming proceeded exactly as planned, so everyone wasn't too nervous.
But this was just the calm before the storm. Later, they felt a fear that would startle even someone who knew it was a movie shoot.
The story follows a female reporter who uses her nighttime program to interview firefighters. After accompanying the fire brigade on a mission, she encounters a series of terrifying events. The entire sequence is filmed from the cameraman's first-person perspective, making it easier to immerse the viewer and more directly convey the horror of human mutation.
A few days later, Jiang Jingshu arrived at the film set carrying a handbag. As soon as she entered, she was startled by the stunt performers who were resting there. Their grotesque, zombie-like makeup made her take a second look.
The stunt performers looked on with curiosity at the unexpected arrival of Jiang Jingshu. The crew had been keeping a very low profile since the pre-production stage, so why was an Asian woman suddenly appearing, and such a beautiful one at that...?
The sharp-eyed Jiang Jingshu had already spotted Jiang Youzhen sitting on the set. She walked over with a smile and called out to him gently.
A strange face appeared on set, attracting a lot of attention. After seeing Jiang Youzhen's reaction, they realized who the woman was.
Tony was pleasantly surprised to see Jiang Jingshu suddenly visit the set. The two hugged and chatted about everyday things, just like old friends who hadn't seen each other for many years.
After they had finished catching up, Jiang Youzhen finally had a chance to speak, "Mom, why didn't you text me before you boarded the plane? I could have picked you up."
"You're so busy, yet you still came to pick me up?" Jiang Jingshu looked around the film set and joked with a smile.
To be honest, she was quite satisfied with the crew. Most of them were young faces, and the atmosphere was harmonious. It was just that the few stunt performers with zombie makeup looked a bit scary.
"Your production crew must have used a lot of blood..."
"Uh, it's all thanks to the prop master. There's another scene coming up later, want to stay and watch?"
Jiang Jingshu's arrival was indeed a pleasant surprise, but before the surprise, he hadn't forgotten the work at hand.
Mikael briefly introduced the crew members and lead actress Jennifer to Jiang Jingshu. Mikael wasn't that familiar with Jiang Jingshu, but since he was her brother-in-law, Jiang Jingshu was happy to chat with him a bit more.
"Everyone, take a 20-minute break, then we'll continue with the next game."
After saying goodbye to everyone, Jiang Youzhen returned to Jiang Jingshu's side. Seeing that Jiang Jingshu was carrying a bag, he reached out to help. "Is that your luggage? Let me carry it. Are you planning to stay in a hotel or go back to your apartment after this? My car is parked outside."
Jiang Jingshu handed the bag to Jiang Youzhen with a half-smile on her face and didn't say anything, which puzzled Jiang Youzhen. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"The bag was full of snacks carefully selected by a girl surnamed Jin. I didn't have any luggage."
Upon hearing this, Kang Woo-jin's face instantly lit up with a smile, and even his voice became cheerful, "Really?! This gift is just in time! I was wondering why I'd been craving snacks lately."
Jiang Jingshu looked around, especially glancing at the clothes stained with blood and dust. She didn't think that staring at these things all day would make her want to eat.
The bag was crammed full of snacks sold in convenience stores and supermarkets, mostly puffed snacks and biscuits, as well as nuts, and the corner was piled high with gummy candies... well, they were mostly sweet.
Jiang Youzhen took out a bag and glanced at the ingredient list. The 80% fat content made his back tingle. How long would he have to run to burn off that much energy after just one bite?
He accepted the weighty concern he received!
