Chapter 1340 - 1335: Mother and Son on Different Wavelengths
"Don’t worry about it. Just tell me, who is she? Did you get her pregnant and now she’s blackmailing you?" Julia Zabinski leaned in, looking suspicious.Nicholas Croft responded helplessly, "Mom, how can your imagination be so wild? Is your son really that kind of person?"
"Why not? If you can even bring a mistress home, what else can’t you do?" Julia Zabinski glared at her son disapprovingly, as if Nicholas Croft were a villain who could do no good.
Nicholas Croft lowered his gaze and sighed, as if making a decision. When he looked up again, his handsome face was serious.
"Mom, if I told you I’ve been married before and that the truth isn’t what Hannah Hargrave said, would you believe me?"
"What? You were married?" Julia Zabinski’s mouth dropped open in surprise. "How did we not know, your dad and I? To whom? Not Hannah?"
"No." Nicholas Croft shook his head at his mother’s gaze. "Before her, I already had a wife. She’s the girl you just asked about, her name is Sophie Foster. If you and Dad watched entertainment news, you’d know we didn’t have a wedding, just got the marriage certificate..."
"Nicholas, why didn’t you tell your dad and me that you got married?" Julia Zabinski interrupted before Nicholas could finish talking, and her thoughts were completely out of sync with her son’s.
"You’re already a grown man, why do you still make your dad and me worry about you?
So this means Hannah is your second marriage. She’s a young maiden not minding your divorce and marrying you, and you still bring home a mistress. How could you do this to her!"
Julia Zabinski slapped the armrest of the chair, looking deeply distressed.
"Mom, can you let me finish?" Nicholas Croft spoke helplessly. "Things aren’t what you think. I married Lara, and we had a baby..."
"Where’s the baby then? Did the woman take it after you divorced?"
Nicholas Croft’s unfinished words were interrupted again by his mother. He closed his eyes and sighed wearily, "Mom, could you please not interrupt? Let me finish speaking!"
"Alright, alright, go on, I won’t interrupt." Julia Zabinski sat back down, muttering continuously.
Nicholas Croft took a deep breath, suppressing his impatience, and continued, "The child is gone. Car accident, two lives lost in one!"
"What? Car accident? Nicholas, you’re not lying to me, are you? They just vanished like that? Didn’t the police investigate?"
"They did investigate. The perpetrator is still imprisoned." Nicholas Croft rubbed his temples, feeling that communicating with his mother was becoming increasingly difficult, giving him a headache.
Julia Zabinski...
Realizing the situation, she continued to berate, "Yet you still don’t treat Hannah well!"
"Mom, the car accident was orchestrated by Hannah Hargrave!" In his urgency, Nicholas Croft accidentally let the truth slip, and as soon as he spoke, the entire office fell silent.
Julia Zabinski...
Staring wide-eyed at her son, she took a while to part her lips and asked, "Ni-Nicholas, are you saying that the car accident was arranged by Hannah?"
Before Nicholas could answer, Julia Zabinski shook her head and dismissed it herself, frowning and waving her hand, "Impossible, you must be mistaken. How could a dutiful child like Hannah do something so heartless?"
"Mom, just pretend I didn’t say that, and don’t bring it up with Hannah when you get home either."
"Nicholas! You can’t falsely accuse good people recklessly," Julia Zabinski slapped the table and scolded, "You can’t just accuse Hannah based on your own imagination. I’m telling you, if Hannah hears about this, it will really hurt her!"
Nicholas Croft...
Was his mother brainwashed by Hannah or had she lost her mind? He spoke so clearly, yet she still wouldn’t believe him!
He rested his handsome face in his hands, vigorously rubbing his face, and said rather impatiently, "Mom, if there’s nothing else, please go home first. I’ll have the driver take you. I still have work to do."
