Chapter 1287 - 1302: Don't Pinch Me, It Hurts
"Okay, here's the plan—I'll come to the station to pick you up later." Lin Mu offered sweetly, expressing his longing for the Chief Police Officer."Alright then." The Chief Police Officer's tone softened significantly. Clearly, Lin Mu's tactic for making women happy was quite effective—almost always successful.
After hanging up, Lin Mu drove to the police station. It only took about ten minutes to get from the Flying Dragon Foot Bath Pavilion to the station, so Lin Mu arrived and headed straight inside to find the Chief Police Officer. At the station's office building, Lin Mu greeted a few familiar officers. These officers knew Lin Mu well; they were mostly trusted subordinates of the Chief Police Officer, promoted step-by-step from community police stations.
After exchanging greetings, Lin Mu pushed open the door to the Chief Police Officer's room, only to be met with a round of scolding.
"You rascal! Don't you know to knock before you enter?" the Chief Police Officer greeted Lin Mu with mock anger, though there was a mix of tenderness in her emotions, considering they hadn't seen each other for a while.
"Hey, I learned this sneak attack technique from you guys in the police. It's to check if you're up to anything naughty." Lin Mu grinned. The Chief Police Officer was in uniform, her chest prominently displayed, enough to tempt sleazy men on the street.
"You rogue, what could I possibly be up to?" The Chief Police Officer glared at Lin Mu and said.
"Oh, maybe we could get up to something naughty here?" Lin Mu chuckled, moving close to the Chief Police Officer, who had a faint fragrance that was intoxicating upon closer sniff. It was hard to imagine what her colleagues felt working alongside such a stunning beauty. But with the Chief Police Officer's icy demeanor, no one dared to make advances.
"You scoundrel! What goes on in your head all day?" The Chief Police Officer pinched Lin Mu's waist hard, teaching the rascal a lesson.
"Ouch…" Lin Mu winced in pain—it hurt like hell.
"Hey, it's just that I missed you so much." Lin Mu rubbed his waist said.
"Alright, there's time tonight. This is a workplace, not to be messed around in." The Chief Police Officer cautioned, lest someone walks in. That would be mortifying! Even if not discovered, doing something like that here would be embarrassing.
"Okay, okay, then tonight." Lin Mu grinned.
"Fine, I'll wrap up in a bit. You sit on the couch and wait; it'll only be ten minutes." Qi Manlin said.
"Alright." Lin Mu nodded and sat on the couch, playing on his phone.
The best way to kill time when bored is by playing mobile games or reading novels. However, Lin Mu preferred reading novels, though the author's slow serial updates frustrated him, making him want to throttle the writer.
About ten minutes later, Qi Manlin stretched leisurely and said, "Got it all done! Let's go."
"Hey, let's go." Lin Mu stood up and left the station with Qi Manlin.
After leaving the station, the sky was completely dark. Lin Mu had already called Xia Yuyi and the others to prepare some dishes and have a good time together at home, instead of going to a restaurant.
Even the liveliest restaurant couldn't compare to the comfort of home.
Upon leaving the station, Qi Manlin got into the car with Lin Mu.
"Hey, girl, I think you're working too hard as the chief, always working overtime without rest. Do you know any chief who works like you? Being a little staff member would be more comfortable!" Lin Mu commented while driving.
"There's no choice; I am the chief after all. Since I took this position, I have to be responsible—no complaints despite the hardship!"
"Geez, girl, initially I wanted you to be chief so your work would be easier, not bowing to anyone's command. But it backfired." Lin Mu said, somewhat helpless.
"Come on, being a little staff member with fixed hours is better, nothing major to tire you out. Now, you're swamped every day with never-ending tasks and meetings—it just makes your head spin." The Chief Police Officer grumbled.
"Hey, you could adopt a different work approach like I do. With a large business, even I manage it easily and am happy in my role. I leave tasks to others and don't bother counting money myself. You could delegate like other chiefs, do meetings and make decisions, and it would be much easier." Lin Mu suggested.
"Come on, I don't have that habit; some things can't be trusted with others." The Chief Police Officer waved dismissively.
"Seems like you need to train a few more confidants. It won't do; you'll exhaust yourself eventually. The officers you brought from the station are good—train them more, they'll be very useful, and you won't have to handle everything yourself. Confidants are important; every big official or boss has a few." Lin Mu explained.
Qi Manlin nodded, "Indeed, I should train some more trusted, efficient subordinates."
"That's more like it!" Lin Mu nodded, glad the girl finally understood—quite a feat.
"Looks like something's up ahead?"
As they spoke, Qi Manlin pointed ahead. Two cars were stopped in the road—not far from the Lin Family Mansion. It's not the city center, so there were few cars passing by.
"Seems like a crash?" Lin Mu said.
The two cars were clearly having a kiss, and both drivers were arguing, seemingly on the verge of a physical altercation.
"Stop the car and let's take a look." Qi Manlin suggested; being a police officer, she couldn't ignore something like this.
Of course, Lin Mu had no objections, so he drove forward and parked by the roadside.
After stopping, Qi Manlin opened the door and got out. Lin Mu took out a cigarette, too lazy to get out. The Chief Police Officer would likely say a few words and mediate, as it wasn't a major accident, just a scrape between two cars.
Qi Manlin approached, and the two drivers were still arguing.
"Clearly you hit me, and now you want me to pay?" the chubby driver said, displeased, pointing at the skinny one.
"Damn, didn't you see I was overtaking? I honked—didn't you hear? Or is your hearing gone?" The skinny driver retorted, not backing down.
"Damn, clean your language, or I'll beat you to death!" The chubby driver cursed as well, looking ready to fight.
