Chapter 1126: Janelle Tollman Arc, First Encounter
In the dim room, the moment lightning appeared outside the window, it illuminated the interior, vaguely revealing the sleeping couple entwined on the large bed."Boom—"
The thunder exploded, startling Janelle Tollman awake.
The headache from drinking made her press her temples painfully, her mind still somewhat dizzy, with the scent of alcohol and a faint hint of men’s cologne...
As she prepared to sit up, she was startled to realize someone was beside her. The strange ache in her body and her current state of undress made it easy to deduce what had happened between her and the unfamiliar man.
Her mind suddenly felt even more strained, her heart pounding wildly in chaos.
She quietly slipped out of bed, fumbling in the dark to pick up her clothes from the carpet, hurriedly putting them on, and left the room in a rush.
Only after stepping out did Janelle realize she was in a hotel. The advertisement screen in the elevator showed the time as 4:37, and she didn’t encounter anyone besides the staff at the front desk on her way out.
"Um..." She approached the front desk, wanting to ask something, but hesitated midway, finding it hard to articulate.
The girl at the front desk smiled and said, "Would you like to borrow an umbrella?"
As she spoke, she took an umbrella from beside her and handed it to Janelle, kindly reminding her, "It’s pouring outside, be careful while traveling."
Janelle turned to look at the rainy scene outside the door, reaching for the umbrella: "Thank you... I drank too much last night, I want to know who brought me here."
The front desk staff was momentarily stunned, then replied, "Sorry, the two of us just started our shift and aren’t aware of last night’s events. Which room were you in? We can help you check."
Janelle left quickly, and couldn’t recall her room number, thinking for a moment before saying, "...No need, thank you."
With that, she briskly walked toward the hotel’s exit, opened the umbrella, and stepped into the rain.
Seeing the neon billboard of a bar opposite the hotel, Janelle slowly recalled.
Yesterday, she broke up with her first love, ending a three-year relationship.
She dragged her best friend to this bar and drank a lot.
But why she ended up at this hotel and had such an absurd encounter with a stranger, she couldn’t remember at all.
She immediately took out her phone from her bag, wanting to call the friend who was with her yesterday.
"Beep—"
The piercing honk of a truck echoed, and its headlights left Janelle blinded by a glaring white light.
"Bang—"
The sound of rain slightly covered the sound of the collision, a hotel-branded umbrella fell to the ground.
The shattered screen of the phone glowed briefly in the rain before short-circuiting due to water damage.
The driver jumped out of the truck, staring at the motionless girl lying in the pool of blood, stunned for a few seconds before frantically returning to the vehicle, reaching for his phone with trembling hands to dial emergency services.
After six in the morning, the rain stopped, the road still damp.
The bloodstains on the road had been washed away by the rain, and everything returned to calm, as usual.
In the hotel room, Arthur Sutton sat at the head of the bed, looking puzzled at the unfamiliar surroundings, his brows knitted in confusion.
Fragmented images flooded his mind, and seeing the bloodstains left on the white sheets made him realize that it all was not a dream.
The black long hair on the pillow seemed to confirm the presence of a woman last night.
A blurry face flashed in his mind, yet he couldn’t make out the features.
This was Arthur Sutton’s first experience with such a thing, and recalling it now, it still seemed quite wonderful.
Suddenly, he really wanted to know who the girl from last night was.
Yet, aside from that strand of hair, there was no trace of the girl left in the room.
